The vote came after an eight-hour hearing where more than 100 residents and voting-rights advocates pleaded to keep locations open.
County Judge Tim O’Hare and Commissioners Matt Krause and Manny Ramirez backed the cuts, calling them an efficiency and cost-saving move. Commissioners Alisa Simmons and Roderick Miles Jr. opposed the plan, warning it will make voting harder—especially for students, working-class neighborhoods, and communities of color.
“This is not about cost. This is about power,” Simmons said.
The majority also rejected motions to keep key campus sites, including the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and Tarrant County College’s Northeast and Southeast campuses.
With fewer locations, voters could face longer drives and longer lines. Community groups are now scrambling to share updated polling info and organize rides before early voting begins Oct. 19.
